On January 26, 2018, AshaKiran, with generous support from South Asian Americans Leading Together, will host a FREE new one-day Inclusive Community Engagement Conference: Reframing the Conversation around Immigrants' Rights in Alabama.

The Inclusive Community Engagement Conference will bring speakers from the ACLU of Alabama, Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama, Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice,Etowah Visitation Project and Adelante Alabama Worker Center explore strategies for activists, faith-based communities, legal advocates, and people interested in immigrants' rights.

There will also be valuable break-out sessions for participants to network and share with each other how they work for immigrants' rights in their own communities. Be a link in the human chain against domestic violence!
Join AshaKiran and other organizations across Alabama as they host their annual State-Wide Human Chain Against Domestic Violence on Sunday October 7th 2017 from 2pm to 3 pm!

In recognition of October’s National Domestic Violence Awareness month, AshaKiran, the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ACADV) and other non-profit organizations throughout Alabama are working together in solidarity synchronizing human chain events to occur simultaneously across the state in their own counties, on the same day, at the same time and repeat the same pledge making a stand against domestic violence - a truly positive and inspiring message to represent our state. Subsequently, our local citizens, social groups and non-profits present will link hands to form a human chain and together make the pledge to take a stand against domestic violence. Abusers keep their power with silence and secrecy - by placing a spotlight on domestic violence brings DV out of the dark and helps to end that cycle.

AshaKiran invites the community to join the diverse organizations from throughout the city that have gathered to support and make a stand against domestic violence at their individual human chain taking place at Alabama A & M University Campus in Huntsville, AL!

This is a FREE event which include 2018 speakers: more info coming soon!

"When we respect each other we may minimize the violence we're doing and definitely events like this, any event, I think it makes us think, and become cognizant of what someone is going through,” said AshaKiran Founder and President Bhavani Kakani. “People may hear and learn about the violence and learn that they can get help - by helping just one person, they can start to break the cycle of domestic violence," Kakani continued.

Additionally, the Coordinated Community Task Force (CCR) against Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault serving Jackson, Limestone, Madison and Morgan Counties have organized a month of events during October encouraging the public to attend, wear purple, or purple ribbons to help place a focus on domestic violence awareness.
